Myrtle Beach became a city 1957. One of the oldest cities in South Carolina.with 60 miles of beaches by the Atlanta Ocean. Myrtle Beach was named after the many beautiful myrtle trees that grew there on the side of the roads.The beaches are just beautiful at Myrtle Beach.
Festival
Festivals in Myrtle Beach are outstanding. The "Sun Fun Festival" will take place June 4 & 5 ,2010.There will be a Summer Concert Series,Boogie and BBQ Festival September 3 & 4,,2010.
Plantation Tour
On the Maccawaw River rice cultivation was very profitable.A historical tour of the South Carolina plantations on the Low Country rivers. What do you see? Rice plantations,slave cabins,mossy oak trees,and alligators. Birds such as eagles and osprey may be seen.
Farmers Market
Three days a week the farmers market on Mr. Joe White Avenue is open. At the market fruits and vegetables are sold. Fish,crab,flounder,molasses,peanuts,strawberries in season and more.
Golf
Whispering Oaks golf course 18 holes with TifEagle Bermuda grass offers exciting golf. Only 12 miles from the beach. This course has affordable rates and offers golfing lessons.
Beach Colony Resort a relaxing golf or beach vacation getaway. Live shows,shopping,dining,world class golfing are all there.The resort is very close to the beach.

The Giant Buffet at the Giant Crab Seafood Restaurant is a seafood lovers dream. You can't miss the building for theres a giant crab sitting on the roof.. On the buffet you will find broiled fried and baked seafood. Many vegetables and dessert foods are available on the buffet. A kids menu with hamburgers,pizza ,fries and hot dogs.
Coleman's Calabash restraunt is located just a few miles from the beach. Good seafood choices shrimp,flounder,crab,hush puppies (corn dodgers) are delicious.The fresh seafood is brought in right off the boat. A senic view of the river and docks.is available.

The weather is mild in the weather around 60 degrees during the day. and the water 51 degrees. In the summer August-September the air temperature is usually 89-90 degrees..
Fishing
Some of largest and the best prize fishing can be found in Myrtle Beach.
For the a fishing good time there is a fishing tournament every year called the "Grand Strand" fishing rodeo.This event takes place from April-October. You can enter what you catch from the surf,,pier,sea or inlet. Win many prizes such as decals,cash or merchanise. The prizes add up to more than $20,000.

I've been to the Myrtle Beach area twice on golf outings and once as just a tourist. Actually one outing was a little bit soufh in Litchfield. It's nice to play golf in mid-winter when the snow is high around New York. It's a nice place to visit.
