Whe n I was a child Christmas was my most favorite holiday. It still is! I remember I got a small organ for Christmas when I was five. I taught myself to play Jingle Bells . I was so excited I played this song over and over.

Later when I was in Middle school I sang in a wonderful choir. I got to learn a few notes on the piano . What did I play more than any other song was Jingle Bells. We sang lots of wonderful Christmas songs such as Joy to The World, Jingle bells, Winter Wonderland,Drummer Boy,all the old classics. I found out there is a story behind a lot of these songs

Christmas songs or carols originated with religious songs In 1426, "The Holly and the Ivy" is traced back to the middle ages. It is one of the oldest compositions played often. Then the songs caught on in other countries around the world.

In France Christmas Carols called "noel" are about the winter season and Christmas themes.

Austria and Germany "Silent Night" and "O Christmas Tree" are translated from German Christmas songs.

In Greece children go out with triangles singing carols and wishing goodwill to the families in the houses. They politely ask for a gift of candy,nuts,dried fruits or eggs in return.
