The Beauitful Birds of Florida's Beaches
66Florida Birds on the Beach
Beach Birds
Florida's beaches have a wide variety of birds strolling down the beach. Usually they are hunting for some food. Many of them may be in groups. They are fun to watch running in and out with the tide.I have been to the beach many times and never tire of relaxing watching the beach birds.
Sandpiper
A little bird that runs around looking for food. It sticks its beak in the sand and mud feels around then pulls out it's prey.
Laughing Gull
A bird with a long red beak. There body is white with gray back and wings. The gull swoops down and catches it's prey out of the water. This bird actually makes a noise like a laughing sound.
Tern
A cute little black headed bird with gray and black plumage. It is a small to medium size. The tern hunts for fish by hovering over then diving in the water. Interestingly this bird can live from 25-30 years or longer.
Black Skimmer
The only bird in the world who's lower beak is larger than the top beak. The parent catches fish by skimming over the water and grabs the fish bringing them back to the babies to eat.
A Bird Sanctuary
Sun Coast Bird Sanctuary is the largest bird hospital in the United States. The Sanctuary saves thousands of birds. The wild birds that get hurt can be be helped and recover safety at the sanctuary. The birds can nest and raise their babies safely. They reply solely on financial donations from caring people. Open 365 days a year from 9am until sunset. They allow visitors to come in for free.

I also like watching birds along the Gulf coast. You have some nice photos and it is good to know about the rescue center. Thanks!
Everywhere I travel in Florida, there are different types of birds, and all are so beautiful in their own way.
A fantastic experience if you are a die-hard 'birding' fanatic, is a visit to 'J.N. Ding Darling' Bird Sanctuary in Sanibel Island. It really is worth the visit. It's very inexpensive so it's a great family activity too. Lots of wildlife to be seen too.
